People were everywhere. They were running around franticly and the smell inside was horrible. It smelled like vomit and death. When I reached the front desk I signed in and a nurse immediately handed me two face masks for Brice and myself and was ordered to put them on. The nurse, who was a bit overweight, looked like she was very overwhelmed.

After I put on Brice’s mask and then my own I looked around for a seat. There were none. The emergency room was so crowded I had to stand along the wall with several other patients. After about twenty minutes Charlie finally entered.

“Where in the world have you been?” I asked as I handed Brice over to him.

“The parking lot and the garage were both full. So I had to park two blocks over and walk.”

“I wonder why it’s so crowded?” I asked Charlie. That’s when a lady standing next to me answered.

“Everyone seems to have the same symptoms, fever and vomiting.” I stared at her face for a moment before answering.

“Is that what you have?” I asked, wondering if I needed to move away from her. Not as if it would do any good. If I’m going to catch this crap, I most likely will from Brice anyways.

She shakes her head. “No, my husband is the one that is sick. What about you?” she asked.

“Just him.” I say pointing to Brice who is asleep in Charlie’s arms. His little head is resting on his shoulder.

“Does he have a fever and vomiting too?”

“Just a fever.” I answered. And just as I do Brice lifts his head off of Charlie’s shoulder and throws up. Vomit splattered on the floor and walls behind us. It was also all over Charlie’s shirt.

Brice starts to cry immediately. “It’s okay buddy.” Charlie tells him as he hands him over to me, trying to avoid getting any more vomit on Brice from his shirt. “I’m gonna go to the car, I think I have another shirt out there from work.” Charlie tells me as he kisses my forehead. The smell of vomit coming off of him almost causes me to get sick as well.

As Charlie walks off I place Brice on the floor. “C’mon on Brice, let’s go get you cleaned up.” I say taking his hand and leading him to the bathroom.

I was thrilled when Donna announced on Facebook the upcoming release of this book as I have read all the previous books in this series and I must say that I was not disappointed as this story truly pulled my heart strings. We finally get to know the whole story of Charlie and Rachel and of course their son Brice. I know there are many zombie books out there but this series has a bit of everything from love to loss, from weaknesses to strength. You will feel a connection to all of the characters. High praise for the author for her superb story telling.
