Genre: Paranormal Romance
Publication Date: April 25, 2017
When an immortal warrior meets a Scottish lass bewildered by the magic she has inherited, he yearns to protect her. But will his attentions doom them both to Zeus' anger? Or worse, make his lovely mortal the target of the goddess Circe's growing evil?
Alec Cantio is the son of a siren. He and his three brothers hide their true identities while protecting humans from the negligence of the gods. All Alec wants when he visits his favorite magic shop, Speak O’ the Devil, are provisions for his task. But he finds instead a mortal woman, innocent and brave, who tempts him with all he is forbidden to have.
Eilidh MacLeod just wants to close her granddad's shop, and mourn him in peace. But when she's thrust into a world filled with magic, mythical creatures, and gods, she must find a way to control her powers, or be destroyed by a vengeful Circe. But how can she concentrate around the magnetic Alec? Her powerful attraction to him could endanger them all.
Highly recommend! Romance novels aren't normally my niche, but this book was fantastic! It had a romantic undertone but the plot was enthralling and magical. I couldn't put the book down and finished it in just a few days. ... Truly a gem and pleasure to read! I can't wait for volume 2...
- Jessica Baldridge, Goodreads Reviewer
Helen takes on paranormal romance from a fresh angle, combining mythologies rather than painting herself into a single modal corner. She has opened a world with endless possibilities, that I for one cannot wait to see where it goes next.

Approaching 40, I decided to cross one huge achievement off my bucket list…To write a book.
As a young girl, I had always loved to read. Preferring stories with strong female characters, I loved the feeling of being part of their story. Almost like I had been witness to the very events that unfolded on the pages before me. I felt as though these great women were my friends.
I knew that if I did in fact ever write a book of my own, I would only want strong positive women on my pages. I held that dream very close to me, never telling anyone.
Years later, a friend recommended a book to me… I didn’t love it. She made an innocent comment, “Well you couldn’t do any better.” It lit a fire deep inside me. That young girl who dreamt of writing wasn’t dead. She was alive and well, but had been busy working, having children and being a wife.
Those words, while weighed heavily upon me, also freed me at the same time. It was the kick up the butt I needed. “Why couldn’t I do any better?” I could and I knew it.
So, I sat down and began to write. The words flowed so easily. Before I knew it, my book had taken shape.
The beauty was I was able to use the old, “If the book you want to read isn’t written…write it,” theory.
I incorporated a love of strong women and one of my favourite sports…Mixed Martial Arts.
I hope that people who read my book not only love it…and I know you will…but I hope it reminds you that all those little dreams you have, you can achieve them. You can do anything you want. Re-light the fire inside you…and if you can’t…get a friend to accidently do it for you.

Genre: Historical Romance

Dorothea Sinclair has left her small home town in Maine and come to Boston to begin a career as a newspaper reporter. But so far her job on the Guardian has proved disappointing. More skivvy than reporter, she’s even been subjected to a humiliating proposition from the chief editor’s son. She needs a break but never expects it might come from a chance meeting with an Irish ruffian.

There’s a great deal of injustice in Boston, and O’Hare, embroiled in his fight for equality on behalf of Boston’s Irish, is well aware of it. When he rescues Dorothea’s hat on the waterfront, he’s surprised to learn she’s a reporter. And when she offers him the opportunity to state his case in the Guardian, what can he do but accept? It’s the perfect chance to put his dreams into his own words—and the only sure way to see her again.

He sported a long, leather coat, well-scuffed and worn open to show a pair of rough trousers and a workman’s shirt, unbuttoned at the throat.

Nothing wrong in that. Dorothea’s own father was a worker, if a skilled one—the blacksmith back home. This man had no blacksmith’s build. Instead he looked light on his feet, square-shouldered and graceful as quicksilver. Brash confidence rolled off him in waves.

As she stood staring across the road in consternation, he held up her hat and grinned before casting a look both ways and jogging over to her side.

He brought a presence with him that backed Dorothea up a step or two. She might credit it to the set of those fine shoulders or the grin that still occupied his face or the swagger he displayed that made the most of his height which, surely, didn’t top six feet.

He reached her, spent an instant examining her closely and presented her hat with a sweeping bow worthy of a practiced thespian.

“Lovely miss, I’m thinking this belongs to you.”

“Yes. Yes it does, thank you.”

Dorothea reached for the hat but, like the rascal he undoubtedly was, he kept it from her grasp, pretending to examine it closely. He brushed off a bit of grit from the brim and fingered the now-tattered veil.

“A mite worse for its adventure, but no doubt you can mend it, women having a certain magical talent for such things.”

Again, Dorothea reached for her hat; again he kept it from her only to take a step closer and set it on her head.

“There you go, beautiful lady. You will be sure and hold on to it more closely next time.”

Dorothea, assaulted by the full force of his masculinity, said nothing though she reached up one hand and clamped the hat to her head. She looked into his face and all the breath fled her lungs.

He wore no hat and had a head full of copper curls well-tossed by the wind. His face screamed Ireland with a broad forehead and slightly-squared jaw all sprinkled with freckles visible even beneath his worker’s tan. His eyes—but no. Dorothea met them once before her gaze skittered away much as the hat had, only to return again on a rush of fascination.

Tawny gold as those of a tom cat, his eyes held a world of emotions: amusement first of all, that flaming confidence, an uncanny wisdom and a hint of daring. Dorothea responded to the last first—seldom did she fail to accept a dare.

When the trawler White Gull was lost in a storm off the coast of Lobster Cove, Lisbeth O'Shea's husband, Declan, was lost along with it. At least that’s what Lisbeth believes until, a year later, she hears Declan’s voice in the night and sees him haunting the shore near their tiny cottage. Then she wonders… Has grief affected her mind? Or is someone playing a cruel trick?

Town blacksmith Rab Sinclair has loved Lisbeth ever since he arrived in Lobster Cove. Lisbeth has never had eyes for anyone other than the charming, feckless Declan O’Shea, but Rab knows Declan was not faithful to Lisbeth. How can he convince the grieving widow she’s pinned her heart on the wrong man? And when dangerous secrets come to light, how can Rab protect the woman who means more to him than his own life?

Newly returned home to Lobster Cove from the War Between the States, blacksmith Douglas Grier can’t forget the horrors he’s witnessed or the beautiful young woman he helped break free from her shackles one dark night after her master’s plantation burned. He wishes he had at least asked her name, even though she and her family disappeared into the darkness and Douglas has no expectation of seeing her again.

Josie Freeman can’t remember the last time she felt safe. Even though she and her family are freed, they’re being pursued by slave hunters hired by their former owner. When their ship is damaged on the way to Nova Scotia, Josie is thrown into contact with the one man she never expected…the very man she had wanted to see. But will her past catch up with her before Douglas can free her heart?

Some secrets can't stay hidden forever...

To his fans, Ashe Hunter is the perfect man, the classically trained British actor taking Hollywood and Broadway by storm. To his American girlfriend, Riley Eames, he is a man in love and he'll do anything to keep her safe from the prying eyes of paparazzi suddenly digging into her life.

But to someone from his past, Ashe is her ticket to Hollywood fame and she'll do anything to get it even if it means tearing down the image he's built for himself ever since he left her.

“What did she mean when she said I was so vanilla?” asked Riley.

Ashe had known this was coming, that Riley would ask questions. Well, why shouldn't he just answer her truthfully?

“It has nothing to do with your hair, petal,” he said. “Unfortunately, Catriona Marks is not known for her subtlety.”

“What does it mean, then, ‘She's so vanilla’?” Riley asked, her voice mimicking Catriona's words as she pulled her hand away and crossed her arms in front of her chest.

“Catriona's tastes are what might be called ‘alternative’,” explained Ashe. “In some circles, she's better known as ‘Mistress Cat’.”

“Like a Dominatrix? How would you know that?” Riley paused, raising her hand. “No, don't answer that, Ashe. I’m not sure I want to know.”

For a few moments, she didn't speak. He watched her bring her hand to her mouth, her expression distraught as if a vision of Ashe and Catriona together had come to her mind unbidden. Then she turned her face toward the window, watching the snow outside as the car made its way through the streets.

"You used to date her, didn't you?"

"Yes," he replied.

“It would have been better if you'd just said she's your ex-girlfriend,” Riley said. “She is, isn’t she? Is she the actress who discovered you?”

“Yes, she is.”

They spent the rest of the ride in silence. Ashe had much to say, but this was not the ideal place to tell Riley the things he wanted her to know about his past and the people who belonged there.

Loving Ashe

A booty call. A stuck elevator. A chance to move on.

Three years after her ex-boyfriend left her to pursue his Hollywood dream, barista Riley Eames’ life is still on hold, hindered by questions only he can answer. So when he asks to meet her for a booty call while he’s in town, she reluctantly agrees, only to find herself stuck in the hotel elevator with rising British star, Ashe Hunter.

He's gorgeous, charming, and before the night is over, smitten.

But a celebrity romance may not be enough to get Riley's love life moving again, not when the ex-boyfriend is back in town and with him, the secrets that will change her life forever.

Though Liz majored in Journalism in college, she discovered that she preferred writing fictional stories over proofing news and ad copy. These days, Liz is the author of five full-length novels including Everything She Ever Wanted, Loving Ashe and A Loving Riley.

When she’s not arguing with her muses about their story arcs, she’s usually hanging out with her little prince, stepping on Legos and building train towns. She’s probably also guzzling down coffee and sneaking in the chocolate while learning about the world from other peoples’ writings. And she’s always asking questions. Always.

{Review} Dark and Dreadful Things (Dark Things Book 3) by Kelly Martin @martieKay

Dark and Dreadful Things (Dark Things Book 3)
by Kelly Martin

You can't believe everything you see.

Reeling from the events that took place at the King House, Abel Hale and Elise Morgan have been sent to a new haunting at the house of Cody Cain. Except thanks to overhearing a private conversation between Abel and the evil Silas Ford, Elise isn't sure she can trust Abel, much less work with him. That fact breaks her heart because she had begun having real feelings for him, feelings that won't go away no matter how much she tries.

As a former frat house, Cody's home has seen its share of good times. It has also seen its share of pain, suffering, and death. Six months ago, the paranormal activity in the house skyrocketed, forcing Cody to ask for help from the producers of Dark and Deadly Things, namely Silas.

The house is something Elise has never seen before. The walls move, time jumps in and out, and nothing is ever the same. It is as if the house is in a time loop, moving and swaying from past to present. Caught in the loop is the ghost of Andrew Scott (no relation to the actor). He has his own secrets and a connection to Elise that will rock her already upended world.

With two days to find out what is going on at the Cain house, Abel and Elise have to use every trick they've learned so far to not only figure out what exactly is going on, but what it means to for them.

Because something evil has taken residence at the Cain house, something that knows Abel and Elise all too well.

Exciting and hair raising twists and turns continue to keep me captivated and glued to my seat. This third installment does not disappoint and a startling connection is discovered. I am completely hooked on this series and look forward to the next supernatural installment as it's anyone's guess on what could happen next. A superbly written series that keeps you looking over your shoulder and wondering where the glitches will appear next.

“Mason, MASON, MASON!” Skylar panicked.
“I know. Skylar, hold on tight. I’m going to brake.”
“But there are cars behind us.”
“We have no choice. Don’t worry. I got this.” Mason pushed down on the brake forcefully. The car hydroplaned to the right. “Hold on.”
Skylar gripped the first thing her hand found. The water from the road jetted up into the air like in a water show, but the car kept gliding sideways, until finally it spun in a full circle and stopped. With no time to waste, Mason turned it to the right and accelerated, hoping to dodge what was coming toward them.
Out of nowhere, a long piece of ice, taking the form of a spear, darted through the trucks’ tires and punctured some of them. More ice spears came soaring out of the rain, but this time ten or more sphere-like ice balls followed, denting the sides of the trucks. One went through a windshield. With flat tires, the trucks now glided as if skating on ice, maneuvering from side to side.
“Did you do that?” Skylar asked excitedly.
“No. Must be Poseidon’s kids. Where the hell are they?” Mason spread his right arm out in front of Skylar as if to protect her. “Bend down, Sky.”
One of the trucks hit another and veered off, hitting yet another one. The crash caused the trucks to flip and tumble, heading straight for Mason’s car. With a look of shock, Skylar held her breath. There was no time to move, think, or get out of the car, so she closed her eyes and prepared for the crash.
Seconds before impact, Mason’s car flew up into the air and over the trucks. Somehow, as if by magic, the water created a liquid bridge, guiding the car safely over, and then it thumped hard onto the ground on the other side. Without looking back, Mason sped away as the sound of screeching brakes and metal hitting metal blasted behind them.
“What just happened?” Skylar yelped. “Did you do that?” Everything had happened so fast. Adrenaline had rushed through her body so rapidly, she’d had no time for fear. Once it was over, she was amazed and stunned speechless.
“No, I didn’t. Poseidon’s kids. It’s the only explanation. They can manipulate water. I had it handled. There was no need for them to show off. Lots of civilians are hurt.” Mason sounded irritated, perhaps because he wasn’t the hero this time around or perhaps he truly did care for those people he didn’t know.
Amazed by their abilities, wherever they were, Skylar was grateful for their showing off. Though Mason claimed he’d had the situation handled, Skylar thought otherwise, but kept her opinion to herself.
Fire and heavy smoke spiraled into the sky behind them. The trucks had mostly slammed against each other, except for one. Guilt consumed her, thinking about the innocent people who’d happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. She couldn’t dwell on her remorse. She saw the same white truck, now joined by a black truck, tailing them. “It’s the white truck again, but there’s another one behind it.”
“I see them,” Mason said with a sly tone, looking in the rearview mirror. “Let’s see if they can follow.”
